The Resilient Caribbean Communities project aims to increase resilience in both forest and agroforestry ecosystems and agricultural systems, thereby improving livelihoods in rural communities vulnerable to climate change.
The Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Cuba are affected by hydro-meteorological events, which have increased in number and intensity, making it necessary to adopt measures that contribute to the strengthening of adaptive capacities in vulnerable populations in the Caribbean. These communities are made up of women, youth, and elderly people who depend on ecosystem goods and services for their livelihoods. The main role of these groups within the project is to implement measures in their production systems to make them resilient to the extreme events brought about by climate change.
"The project helps to improve productive activities in the communities. With the project, I have been enable to produce vegetables all year round, which was not possible before because of heavy rains and high temperatures that prevented the crops from thriving. The garden has a roof to protect it from the rain and sun. My family is grateful for the support of the project's funders, coordinators, and technicians because they have trained us in chemical-free food production while also helping to conserve the soil", stated Wendy Jáquez, beneficiary of the Resilient Caribbean Communities project.
