The data collection capabilities of plant operators at the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) are being developed. The organization in January 2023 received three electromagnetic discharge measurements devices along with three tablets from the Climate-Resilient Water Sector in Grenada (G-CREWS) project.

The new devices are part of a pilot that involves plant operators from three water treatment plants across the island. The devices will aid in gathering more consistent data captured from regular readings.

These operators were recently engaged in a 1-day theoretical and practical training exercise familiarizing themselves with the new devices. The items were procured under the sub activity of the project's componente 1: Piloting improvement of data availability and data management for discharge measurements at rivers and streams. The total value of the devices is $64,630 XCD (approx. 24,000 USD).

Also benefitting from the data will be the future Water Resources Management Unit (WRMU).  The unit will be established under the G-CREWS project to support the integration of climate-resilience into Grenada’s water sector governance.

The WRMU will rely on hydrological and climate change data from relevant ministries and agencies. By strengthening the Treatment Plant Operators of NAWASA in data collection and management, the WRMU will get a sound base for decision making as it relates to Grenada’s water resources.  > More information
