Oreamuno is a beautiful municipality in Costa Rica’s Cartago province that, due to its natural conditions, is home to lands that are important for the country's agricultural production. However, precisely because of these characteristics, the rainy season has a high risk of flooding these and other areas.
Aware of the situation and urgently looking to solve the problem, the municipality developed alliances with owners of local agricultural farms aiming to design nature-based adaptation solutions by digging a lagoon and caissons in the highly permeable soil, in order to mitigate the phenomenon of surface runoff.
This was part of the workshop held by the ACCIÓN Clima project and the local government that joined the call to implement climate change adaptation plans in the Costa Rica’s municipalities.
