The staff of the Dr. Carlos Luis Valverde Vega Hospital (HCLVV) in San Ramón de Alajuela, Costa Rica, are finding out that energy efficiency can be exciting. On August 4, the hospital’s team warmly welcomed a taskforce composed by PEEB GIZ colleagues, partners and consultants to kick-start studies to make the hospital more efficient. Potential energy savings from efficiency improvements reach 208.000 kWh/year!

The results of the studies will empower hospital administration and staff to choose energy efficiency improvements that best suit their needs. Thermodynamic and bioclimatic modelling will provide a menu of options to improve energy efficiency in the facilities, as well as cost-benefit considerations.

The hospital visit is part of PEEB’s cooperation with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), the country’s largest healthcare provider. Together, we are harnessing the opportunity to improve health in secondary cities such as San Ramón de Alajuela, which sits at a 60 km from the country’s capital San José.
