The monitoring of impacts and progress is one of the most important pillars of the restoration of ecosystems and landscapes. The FDV has trained its partners in the implementation of an innovative methodology to measure ecosystem services and the improvements related to the restoration actions implemented.
In Costa Rica, the Environmental Bank Foundation (FUNBAM) uses drones to monitor the growth of trees planted in different private farms and protected areas. The team shared this knowledge of the use of drones for monitoring and planning restoration actions in exchange workshops with technical staff from ministries and environmental authorities from the Dominican Republic, Panama, and El Salvador during several sessions over the course of 2022.
"It is important to work with drones because they are a technology that can give us great efficiency and effectiveness in the processes of planning, control, and monitoring of restoration. In addition, it can be applied very well in field supervision and to maximize resources, because it allows us to maplarge areas in a short time and can also provide us with parameters for interpreting restorationprocesses," explains Randall Herrera, coordinator of the FDV project in Costa Rica and facilitatorduring the training sessions. > More information
