Energy storage as an enabler of energy transition

Over 65 authorities and technicians from the public and private electricity sector in the Dominican Republic participate in Energy Transition project’s workshop

On Thursday, April 27, the interactive workshop "Energy Storage: Enabler of Energy Transition" was held for technicians of the electricity sector of the Dominican Republic. The opening remarks of this seminar were given by the Vice Minister of Energy, Rafael Gómez, who highlighted the importance of having an adequate energy storage system in view of the fact that the country is going through a neuralgic process of energy transition. Gómez explained that investments in renewable energies are growing every day and the State's interest in achieving the objectives proposed in this area in the coming years.

The expert Ricardo Castillo presented the keynote speech, where he addressed the importance of knowing the lifespan of energy storage systems, existing and future technologies, the depth of discharge and the most effective compensation mechanisms to promote these technologies in the markets. The debate was generated regarding the connection and operation of batteries coupled to photovoltaic and wind power plants, pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of DC and AC coupling.
