With the support of GIZ through the Energy Transition project and the TAPSEC project (Technical Assistance Programme for Sustainable Energy in the Caribbean), the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM-RD) has become the first public institution in the Caribbean to obtain the international certification to the ISO 50001:2018 standard. The certification is a voluntary international standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), to establish, implement, maintain, and improve an energy management system, promoting energy efficiency practices.
On December 20, 2022, the certificate was presented during a ceremony led by Minister Antonio Almonte and Vice Minister Alfonso Rodriguez. The event was attended by the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Dominican Republic, Maike Friedrichsen, Ariel Espejo, local director of AENOR, the firm that audited the process, and Clemens Findeisen on behalf of the GIZ.
