Dominican delegation visits Chile to learn about experiences in renewable energies

The Triangular Cooperation between Chile, Germany and the Dominican Republic titled "Energy Planning towards Carbon Neutrality", is developed on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany, with the aim of exchanging experiences between the institutions of the electricity sector of the Dominican Republic and Chile to strengthen energy planning aligned with international standards and the ambition of carbon neutrality in both countries.

The main objective of this visit was to learn about Chile's experience in renewable energies and the integration of energy storage and regulatory aspects of energy and auxiliary services tenders, in order to guarantee the best penetration of these sources in electricity generation. Also, to know the efforts being made in renewable hydrogen, at what stage it is and what the requirements are.

"In general, the cooperation is of great interest for the Dominican Republic in everything related to the strengthening of the regulatory processes of stimulus, investment and operation of the electricity market in the Dominican Republic," mentioned Minister Antonio Almonte.

The Dominican delegation, led by Mr. Antonio Almonte, Minister of Energy and Mines of the Dominican Republic (MEMRD), was composed of Ms. Chadia Abreu, MEMRD Advisor, Ms. Vanessa Gómez, Deputy Legal Director of the National Energy Commission of the Dominican Republic (CNE-RD) and Mr. Manasés Mercedes, GIZ Energy Transition Project Advisor. In Chile they were received by senior officials and technicians of the Ministry of Energy (MEN-CL), the National Energy Commission (CNE-CL), the National Electricity Coordinator and the 4e Program of GIZ Chile. This visit took place from July 23 to 29, 2023.
