Another 500,000 imperial gallons of stored water has been added to the overall storage capacity of portable water in the system of the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA).
The commissioning of the latest Mirabeau Water Storage Tank in February will bring enhanced supply service to more than 3000 people in communities served by the water system in the North-Eastern parts of Grenada.

Prime Minister and Minister of Public Utilities Honourable Dickon Mitchell in officially cutting the ribbon said building resilience into Grenada’s water infrastructure is critical in light of climate change impacts on small island developing states like Grenada. “The need to ensure we build sustainability and resilience into our water sector is critical. The tanks are an obvious example of this.”
The construction and commissioning of the tank is the second, among a total of eight (8) being built under the Climate-Resilient Water Sector (G-CREWS) project. The 7-year project is jointly funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) under its International Climate Initiative (IKI) and the Government of Grenada.

General Manager of NAWASA Mr. Kendrick St. Louis says the investment reflects a significant shift in the country’s approach to water management. He said, “Today, we are not merely celebrating the commissioning of a water storage tank. We are celebrating a more sustainable future, strengthened resilience to climate change and the improved well-being of the Mirabeau community.”
Head of Project (GIZ) G-CREWS Ms. Marion Geiss said the value of water cannot be underestimated and the project through its financiers is proud to see the completion of these tanks. She said, “This water tank stands as a testament of our commitment towards climate resilience.”
