One of our main tasks as an IKI interface project for Central America and the Caribbean is to foster the exchange of knowledge among the cooperation projects under our scope. As part of this mandate, at the end of 2022 we carried out the technical workshop "Engaging the private sector in climate and biodiversity action ".

On this occasion, more than 100 people from countries in the region, including cooperation projects, partners and stakeholders, academia, NGOs, and the private sector, gathered to share experiences on the integration of this important stakeholder in cooperation projects, how to encourage their engagement in climate action and promote the sustainable use of biodiversity in business.

In the virtual format, participants discussed the main challenges for private sector participation and analyzed the role of international cooperation in addressing them. In addition, 10 IKI projects, as well as two projects funded by other donors, presented lessons learned and results in cooperation in different sub-sectors - including agriculture, livestock, forestry, industry - and shared experiences in working with large, medium, and small enterprises and even start-ups.

The regional event was managed from an onsite operations center in San José, Costa Rica, by the German Development Cooperation GIZ, within the framework of the IKI interface project for the ACCION Clima region.
