The Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition of Ecuador (MAATE) with the support of the EbA LAC Program organized the first edition of Bambutón 2022, whose objective was to reaffirm the commitment and empowerment of the various local actors in the province of Manabí toadapt to the effects of climate change through the sustainable management of bamboo.
The event was attended by more than 100 people, including producers, authorities and representatives of the Manabí academy, who planted more than 500 guadua bamboo segments on a area of approximately 3 hectares. This is a method of reforestation that can be highly replicable for the canton of Chone.
This first edition of the Bambutón sought to position the importance of developing valuable spaces for the active exchange of knowledge, which can be replicable, to encourage the creation and strengthening of capacities in the sustainable use and promotion, in this case, of bamboo, as alternatives for the protection and restoration of ecosystems in the area.
The most innovative aspect of this Bambutón was the participatory process that allowed theappropriation of the activity by local and national entities, thus guaranteeing the sustainability of the actions carried out, not only in the care and monitoring of the plants, but also in the annualimplementation of this activity.
