GreenWatersheds - A Closing with an Eye on the Future
The GreenWatersheds project, implemented from 2018 to 2023 in Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico and Dominican Republic presents its wide range of publications from summaries of lessons learned and success stories to technical manuals on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA).
For six years, CuencasVerdes promoted the climate change adaptation based on the delicate interrelationships between water and forests and the ecosystem services they provide to human life and economy. © OroVerde – L. König
GreenWatersheds was an initiative developed jointly by Centro Naturaleza (Dominican Republic), Fundación Defensores de la Naturaleza (Guatemala), OroVerde (Germany), Pronatura Mexico, and the Unidad Presupuestada de Servicios Ambientales (UPSA) of the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park (Cuba) from 2018 to 2023. Project objectives included the implementation of Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) measures in priority watersheds, the integration of this concept into public planning processes, and the construction of governance and financing mechanisms to support the replication of measures that have proven their effectiveness and efficiency, as well as the conservation of ecosystem services in general.
To advance towards these goals, GreenWatersheds applied an approach that integrated participatory and inclusive planning and implementation processes for both EbA measures and public policy advocacy strategies on the one hand, and innovative tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and economic valuation studies of ecosystem services on the other.
Here is a selection of the wide range of publications developed during the course of the project. From summaries of lessons learned and success stories to technical manuals for the application of EbA principles, they offer a wealth of information and inspiration for other climate change adaptation initiatives in terms of field work, governance and financing strategies.
GreenWatersheds has ended, but we are still adapting to the future!
