Over 85 multipliers strengthened their capacities to promote gender mainstreaming in the local management of adaptation to climate change, thanks to the "Gender and Climate Change" workshop. This workshop was held with the support of the regional project Scaling Up Ecosystem-based Adaptation Measures in Rural Latin America (EbA LAC) and the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PLANACC), in coordination with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE) of Ecuador.
The PLANACC promotes the generation of enabling conditions for adaptation to climate change through actions at the sectoral and local levels, as well as the generation of information and, mainly, capacity building, thus contributing to the articulation of inter-institutional efforts to ensure the sustainability of processes with a focus on Adaptation to Climate Change (ACC) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) proposed by the EbA LAC program.
As part of the results achieved, participants were able to understand and interpret concepts that allow them to scale the gender approach and adaptation to climate change in their jobs; as well as contribute to the inter-institutional articulation for gender mainstreaming; and strengthen knowledge and skills in gender, as well as CCA-EbA for the sustainability of local processes.
"I congratulate EbA LAC for carrying out this training workshop. To reduce these gender inequality gaps, it is important that families and households assume their important role that will generate sustainable social changes, especially in rural areas where social and cultural aspects have more impact," pointed out Jessica Chavez Pisco, coordinator of Climate Actions of the Decentralized Autonomous Provincial Government of Manabi.
