At the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund’s (CBF) first COP participation, Climate Change Program Manager, Ulrike Krauss, presented “Lessons from Island-led Trust Funds – How these can Help Advance Local Adaptation Efforts and Address Financing and Capacity” at the Island Bright Spots Event Series: “Fostering Island-led Local Action into Global Coalitions”, organized by the Global Island Partnership: She stressed how the flexible structure of the CBF helps address islands’ financing and capacity needs and provided an outlook into the CBF’s future plans.
At a side event organized by Welthungerhilfe and OroVerde, Krauss shared “EbA Lessons Learned in Haiti and Cuba”. The importance of community engagement throughout project development and implementation, as well as the benefits of bottom-up management of protected areas were common themes. Given the unique challenges in Cuba and Haiti, country-specific lessons learnt about project management was shared.
This event culminated in the launch of the CBF EbA Facility’s 4th Call for Proposals. Up to USD 14 million could be allocated to EbA projects that improve the management of or rehabilitate coastal and marine ecosystems to strengthen the resilience of and reduce climate risks to people in the Caribbean Small Island Developing States, while also contributing to biodiversity protection and climate change mitigation.
