The Climate-Resilient Water Sector in Grenada (G-CREWS) project has inched one step closer to achieving a climate-resilient water supply system.
Under the project, the National Water and Sewerage Authority received over 30 containers filled with pipes and fittings for implementation in 2023. The first batch of 22 containers valued at XCD $4.5 million arrived in December 2022 with the second batch of 17 containers received in January 2023.
Complimenting the pipes are the water tanks and these are expected to arrive within the first quarter of the year. Close to a dozen completed systems will be installed, thus increasing the water storage capacity for the company. The pipes are a major part of building a climate resilient water supply system – and comes after 2 years of planning and designing.
Overall, G-CREWS aims to increase systemic climate change resilience in Grenada’s water sector. The project’s envisioned impact is to have better water supply services, especially in times of drought and after extreme weather events.
