The event held during the Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW) brought together various experts to discuss specific strategies linking the private sector to climate action. Concrete tools such as Long Term Strategies (LTS) were explored to materialize commitments in the short, medium and long term, based on business realities and aligned with Nationally Determined Contributions.

The event "Accelerating climate action by promoting 2050 roadmaps as long-term strategies (LTS) in the private sector" was held on October 24, 2023 as part of the Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW). The exchange format brought together business leaders, technical experts, government representatives, and international organizations to discuss concrete strategies to engage the private sector in climate action, using tools such as Long Term Strategies (LTS).
Organized by the UNEP office for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACO) in collaboration with the UNFCCC Regional Collaborating Centre for Latin America (RCC LatAm), the main focus of the event was to explore the fundamental role played by the private sector in the achievement of the climate objectives established in the Paris Agreement and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of the countries in the region.
During the session, key challenges and opportunities for the implementation of the 2050 Roadmaps as Long Term Strategies (LTS), aligned with the NDCs of Latin American countries were discussed. The aim was to strengthen collaboration between different actors and present the work of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) closer through the RCC LatAm.
The event was attended by the United Nations Environment Program Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNEP-LACO), the Regional Collaborating Center for Latin America (RCC LatAm), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
In addition, there was strong governmental representation with the presence of delegates from Costa Rica and Colombia, who shared concrete experiences. In the case of the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, the country's experience in the development of roadmaps for decarbonization and adaptation of companies, with the support of NDC Action, a project funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection of Germany (BMWK) and implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme, was detailed.
This meeting became a fundamental space to foster collaboration and experience exchange between private sector and governments, promoting concrete actions aligned with climate goals and encouraging the active participation of the business sector in mitigating and adapting to climate change in Latin America.
