Supporting ecosystem assessments

There is an urgent need to halt the loss and degradation of biodiversity and protect nature’s contributions to the well-being of people. In this regard, it is vital to help ensure that the full value of biodiversity is accounted for in decision-making across sectors and governance levels. The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has set priorities for the assessment of ecosystems, including training national stakeholders to perform these ecosystem assessments.

The project supports ecosystem assessments in partner countries. The aim is to adapt national ecosystem assessments to specific national needs and circumstances, promoting equitable approaches and empowering greater support for decision-making. This project also strengthens country engagement with intergovernmental processes and supports the national-level implementation of multilateral environmental agreements.
