Support for IRENA’s SIDS Lighthouses Initiative
A low-emission energy sector is one of the basic prerequisites for a climate-friendly society. This project is contributing consulting services, technical support, and other measures to the Small Island Developing States Lighthouses Initiative from IRENA. For countries located on small islands, the initiative provides a framework that helps to accelerate the transition to a low-emission and sustainable energy supply for the energy sectors in member states. The project is also developing financial models for renewable energy sources as well as implementing pilot projects in renewables. Project results are being shared with the island states other than the project countries via IRENA’s Global Renewable Energy Islands Network (GREIN), where they are also promoting the expansion of renewables.
