INTEGRA: Integrating climate-compatible livestock systems into national commitments of Central America and the Caribbean (preparatory phase)

The livestock sector is among the main contributors to land-use changes, biodiversity loss, and greenhouse gas emissions in the Central America & Caribbean region. The project promotes the transformation of the traditional livestock sector into climate-compatible production pathways (i.e. highly productive, climate-resilient, and low-carbon) to support long-term compliance of climate and biodiversity conservation commitments in the region. It will open opportunities for the livestock sector to contribute to inclusive climate-compatible growth. Therefore, the project will mainstream climate-compatible livestock production approaches into coherent policies and efficient governance arrangements. It will also promote traditional livestock production systems changes by applying innovative technology transfer, financial schemes, and incentives. Efforts to enhance different stakeholders’ awareness, knowledge, and technical capacities will complement the project.
