Eco-Advance: Advancing Eco-Labels and Sustainable Public Procurement for climate and biodiversity protection

Unsustainable patterns of consumption and production are at the heart of the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. Income growth and urbanization have increased the demand for goods and services, and therefore also the impacts generated. Public procurement (CP) represents on average a purchasing power of 15% to 20% of national budgets and can incentivize a change in Sustainable Production and Consumption (SPC), when combined with a robust system of eco-labelling with sustainability criteria. However, progress in this regard in Latin America is very different. The EcoAdvance project triggers a transformation towards SPC patterns through the promotion of eco-labels and sustainable public procurement in a way that contributes to climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection and resource conservation. In addition to this contribution, they will also be able to become trend leaders for the region.
